St. Peter’s Cornhill Graffiti Removal

The Cornhill team has expressed concern with the state of the facade of St. Peter’s since it was plastered with graffiti in 2024 and we are delighted that work has begun this week to have the facade cleaned. The owner, St. Helen’s Bishopsgate is working with the very reputable historic building conservationists at DBR – who worked on the Elizabeth Tower restoration – to have this done as sensitively and appropriately as possible.

Scaffolding went up this weekend with a specialist team anticipating being on site for up to a month from the week commencing 17/03/2025.

St Peter’s is an extremely sensitive historical gem and it was critical all due process was correctly followed before these works could take place.

There are further plans for the large-scale restoration of St Peter’s.

Action on Dockless Bikes

The Cornhill Team have been lobbying for more action to deal with carelessly abandoned dockless bikes which have become a real problem in areas like Threadneedle Street, Cornhill, outside the Royal Exchange and some of the adjoining alleys.

It’s good to see our Chair of Planning and Transportation taking action on this at the highest level meeting the CEO of Lime to discuss better ways of operation. Well done Shravan Joshi MBE.

99 Bishopsgate Development Approved

This building will largely complete the Cornhill Ward part of the Eastern Cluster of tall buildings. I look forward to welcoming the new tenants and also visitors to the building as it isn’t just an office building. I’ve long supported mixed use and ‘open to the public’ developments in place of closed private ‘wall and lobby’ buildings.

A new network of pedestrian routes linking in to the recently consented adjacent 55 Bishopsgate and 55 Old Broad Street developments will see a 1013% increase in public space, linking into wider pedestrian routes from Liverpool Street Station to the City Cluster and beyond.

Added to this, a new retail, food and beverage hub will feature on the ground floor, acting as a ‘City Market’, complete with seating areas that will welcome visitors into the huge, new public space, that would transform the site into a gateway to the City Cluster from the north.

Dockless Bikes Nuisance

We’ve received complaints about carelessly discarded dockless bikes blocking pavements causing access issues for premises and a serious difficulty to people with mobility issues.

The City’s Council has raised the issue and the Planning & Transportation Committee is looking at all legal options avalable and studying actions taken by other local authorities. We have also introduced a reporting tool so that we can identify problem providers and locations.

Councillors Joanna Abeyie and Peter Dunphy welcomed these moves and Chairman of the City of London Corporation Planning and Transportation Committee, Shravan Joshi, said:

“TfL, London Councils and London boroughs are developing a co-ordinated contract to manage dockless e-bikes in London to improve walkways for pedestrians, whilst increasing the quality and sustainability of services in London. In the meantime, the City of London Corporation has set up a dedicated mailbox for the public to raise complaints regarding dockless bikes, which will allow for better monitoring and effective responses to issues raised.”
